***** The September 10th deadline to request a booth and submit a proposal for a presentation has passed and we are NO LONGER accepting submissions for 2008 *****
However, if you are interested in next year we will be accepting submissions for 2009.
The 2008 Cyber Security Awareness Day will reach hundreds of students, faculty, staff, constituents and community members. This year we are selected a limited number of vendors to participate in the event. If you are interested in hosting a table at next year's CSAD, please contact itsecurity@txstate.edu. This year there was no charge for hosting a booth, but we asked that vendors sponsor the event by donating a giveaway to be raffled off in addition to any small gifts they want to give away at their booth.
Texas State University's IT Security office is providing a stage for those who are interested in education and promoting the security of computers, sensitive information, networks and sensitive information. Last year’s Cyber Security Awareness Day included presentations on privacy protection, Internet crimes and predators, current threats and vulnerabilities, and music and file sharing topics. Because of such diversity in our audience we ask that presenters keep in mind that not all participants have a high degree of technical knowledge. Therefore we ask that presentations strive to meet a middle ground for our audience so that all may benefit. In order to provide for accessibility we require that all papers, bios, presentations and documents be posted to our Web site prior to the event.
Prospective presenters are invited to submit an e-mail of interest to IT Security at itsecurity@txstate.edu. Please include your bio, topic description and any questions that you may have about the conference in the body of your e-mail. Presenters selected will be invited to speak at our 2008 Cyber Security Awareness Day and will be allotted approximately 40 minutes including a five minute Q&A. Presentations may mention products in explaining a point but any presentations determined to be “selling or promoting a product” will not be approved. We are looking for vendor-neutral presentations. Please remember your audience and choose topic relevant to today’s IT security environment. Some possible topics to choose from are listed below:
Besides the opportunity to present your information to an audience of scholars and peers you will be helping to educate a diverse group of people from the community on better ways to protect computers and sensitive information. Such a distribution of knowledge benefits us all! Your presentation and name will also have exposure to many of our guests who will be joining us from area corporations and educational institutes as well as the many bright minds of our student body. Be sure to provide your contact information in your presentation since this is sure to be an ideal networking event. On behalf of Texas State University, we thank you for your interest.
